HOW TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Every Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 meet fellow activists at the Stephentown Memorial Library to write letters against the pipeline.
One of the best ways to stop construction of the hydro-fracked gas pipeline project known as Northeast Energy Direct (NED) is to make sure those who can influence its approval are aware of our opposition to it. These “influencers” include our elected representatives and local, regional, and federal members of the various agencies whose job it is to license pipeline development.
As individuals we can voice our opinion, share our concerns, inform, and yes, even educate those with the power to stop the NED. Individually, we can exert some influence, but to have a really powerful impact, we must join together and make as much “noise” as possible. By writing, e-mailing, and phoning in large, hopefully huge numbers, those in power “hear” us better. They understand that we voters and tax payers can ultimately deny them their jobs, so to them, numbers count. The more of us they hear from, the better.
In addition to the ongoing letter-writing workshops every first and third Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30, at the Nassau Free Library, SNYFGP holds letter-signing sessions at the Stephentown Memorial Library every Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00. There will be free access to the Stephentown Library’s computers and printers, free paper, envelopes, and postage. A number of resources will be available to make writing as many letters as you wish easy and convenient, including:
- Form letters that can simply be addressed, signed and mailed;
- Sample letters which can be mixed and matched to personalize your message;
- Petitions that you can sign;
- Informational brochures, articles, and papers;
- Flyers, handouts and signs that you can share with friends and neighbors.
