Energy giant Kinder Morgan’s planned open house on Monday night at the Green Meadow Elementary School in Schodack never happened, thanks to Winter Storm Marcus, but local CBS affiliate CBS 6 (WRGB) previewed the event with a story about local opposition to the company’s Northeast Energy Direct (NED) pipeline proposal, which would cut through Rensselaer County on its way East to New England.
In the story, Nassau Town Supervisor David Fleming, who explains he’s received more calls about this issue than any other over the past two years, says the pipeline would go dangerously close to developed areas and impact the county’s ecosystem, going right through parts of the Rensselaer Plateau.
He adds, the company hasn’t been providing answers about the safety of the project, and has not been truthful.
Rensselaer County Legislator Alex Shannon, who was also interviewed on camera, concurs saying, “I worry it will disrupt communities if there is an explosion, and they don’t have a good track record.”
