Form Letter For Contacting Our Federal Representatives

Over the past few months, Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline (SNYFGP) has been in close contact with our local elected officials in Rensselaer County to oppose Kinder Morgan’s proposed Northeast Energy Direct (NED) pipeline.

This effort continues to be a successful one, and has resulted in resolutions from the Town of Stephentown and the Rensselaer County Legislature strongly opposing this project and all its associated risks to our health, public safety, environment and landowner rights. We sincerely hope the towns of Nassau and Schodack will soon follow with their own strongly worded resolutions.

That said, the time has come for us to focus our attention on our Federal representatives. Your help is critical in this effort and we strongly encourage you to let your senators and congressmen know all the reasons why this project is wrong and should be prevented.

Please download this PDF form letter, which details the seven key arguments we feel should be brought to the attention of Senators Schumer and Gillibrand and Congressmen Tonko and Gibson. Their contact information is included.

Feel free to use this letter as is, or personalize it to add your own concerns, but please act quickly. Their offices have let us know that numbers make all the difference, which means the more people raising these core issues, the more likely they—and their impacts on the citizens of New York State—will be addressed.

Letter writing workshops are already happening in Nassau on the first and third Wednesdays of the month and will begin on Sundays at Stephentown Memorial Library later in May. If you’re interested, please join us and bring your friends, neighbors and family along, too.

Thank you for your cooperation.
