Please call Governor Cuomo now – (518) 474-1041 and tell him to sign Bill A9925, the Geothermal Tax Credit Bill, to support the geothermal industry in New York State and cut greenhouse gas emissions so we can seriously address Climate Change and create clean energy jobs for New Yorkers. Click here for more background information.
A tax credit bill that would give 25% (up to $5,000) for residential geothermal heat pump installations is on the Governor’s desk, and his 10-day deadline to sign is Monday! Geothermal heat pumps use the earth’s constant ground temperature to heat and cool buildings, and they are a key component for reaching New York’s climate goal of a 40% cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Geothermal heat pump technology is crucial to avoid the most catastrophic impacts of climate change; building heating/cooling produces about 2x more greenhouse gases than electricity generation does.
More than 1,000 New York geothermal jobs are at directly at risk , and even more ancillary industry jobs would be affected if the expiration of the Federal geothermal tax credit (Dec 31, 2016) is not countered by a NYS tax credit. Bill A9925/S6249 received overwhelming support from the NYS Legislature (201 to 1). Please tell Gov. Cuomo that his signature is critically important.
On November 22, a group of advocates for the geothermal tax credit bill A9925 held a press conference and delivered to Gov. Cuomo a letter signed by over 160 environmental organizations, local elected officials, and geothermal stakeholders.
Please call Governor Cuomo at 518-474-8390 today, and ask your friends and family to make calls too. It’s best if you call before 5pm today, select option 3, and speak directly to a staffperson. However, if that won’t fit your schedule, please call any time during the weekend to deluge the Governor’s voicemail with support for Bill A9925. And if you could make an additional call Monday morning, it could help get the bill over the finish line!
