350 people attend Schodack Public Forum

Three hundred and fifty people came to the Schodack Public Forum about the Proposed Gas Pipeline and Compressor Station. They included public officials, landowners who’s property is adjacent to the proposed pipeline and community residents. They looked at maps showing where the pipeline and compressor station is proposed to go, expressed their concerns about the project, watched a PowerPoint presentation given by Lisa Zimmerman giving an overview of the project and safety and health concerns, listened to a presentation by Jim Cutler specifically about the type of compressor station proposed for Schodack/Nassau and had questions answered. Residents raised concerns about the safety of the compressor station from terrorist attacks, concerns for the safety of their wells should the pipes leak, anger that they were being asked to shoulder the risk without getting any benefit from the pipeline, questions about how their land could be taken by eminent domain when this project didn’t seem to be in the interest of the “common good,” and concerns about possible explosions and health risks from the chemicals in the fracked gas.
